have you forwarded the correct ports from your router?

If the ports are forwarded correctly, how long does it stay 'stalled'...I noticed ktorrent always seems to stay stalled for a few minutes on my opensuse 11.2 box...then carries on as normal.

have you tried Transmission?

does it connect to any trackers?

is it set to randomly change port?

Try giving the PC a static IP, and forward the relevant port to that IP

Here are My settings -

NETWORK

Port: 50504 (forwarded TCP in router)

UDP tracker port: 4444 (forwarded UDP in router)

Maximum connections per torrent: 120

Global connection limit: 800

Max Download speed: 400

Max uplaod limit: 20 (I raise this when noone else using the network)

DSCP value: 0

Maximum number connection settings: 100

Network interface: All Interfaces

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

BIT TORRENT

Use DHT: enabled

UDP port for DHT: 4445 (forwarded UDP in router)

Use peer exchange: enabled

Use webseeds: enabled

Use protocol encryption: enabled (important if ISP trying to block torrents)

Allow unencrypted connections: enabled (you might want to experiment with this)

--------------------------------------------------------

I have NO software firewall...IMHO not needed in Linux, and the NAT firewall in router is enough...no need to mess with router firewall settings.

Also...enable the IP Filter plugin...instructions here:

http://sathyasays.com/2008/12/08/make-use-of-peerguardian-2s-ip-filter-in-ktorrent/

I use this blocklist

BTW...Transmission is another Torrent Client...usually available in your package manager..or here:
