Connecting to the Internet

Posted by Stephen Griffin at November 10. 2009
I've just put Opensuse 11.1 onto a new hard drive to replace Windows. When i put the Tiscali disc in to connect to the internet i can open the folder to show the installation files but i can't do anything with them in order to make the internet connection.

I could do with some help, please.

Mm, I don't suppose the CD is labelled "Windows Software" ?

Solution:

a. Dump Tiscali and sign up with a ... well .. not Tiscali.

(I would recommend Plusnet for residentail use or Zen for commercial)

b. Get a router, this will negate the need for any additional software.

(I would recommend a Thompson Speedtouch 546 for ~ £25)

It didn't even occur to me it was a Windows disc, there's nothing on it to say.Option "a" sounds good. While i'm at it, can i use programmes like Winrar for extracting rar files or does Linux have its own version? One last thing for the moment, thank you for the help.

Mmm, a+b was the suggested solution rather than options .. :)

Linux has it's own RAR software ...
