how to configure linux for a wireless network

i have never used linux before, dont know which version i have. i have a mini book, purchased second hand for the kids. i have a new bt home hub and cannot get the mini book to connect with the home hub and therfor the internet. the mini book can see the home hub but not connect.

Mmm, doesn't give us much to go on .. just to put into context, there are about 150 mobile phones that run Linux as an operating system before we even get close to computers.

Your mini-book is probably (?) a "net-book" and will , somewhere on the case , tell you at the very least who made it and probably which model it is.
