How do I get connected to Virgin Media broadband

Posted by Terry Treanor at December 15. 2009

I have got an Elonex webbook with Linux Ebunto pre loaded.

I contacted my ISP, Virgin Media, about a mobile modem and they supplied me with a HUAWEI E160 USB dongle. I forgot to mention that the notebooks OS is Linux as it never occurred to me that a company that size wouldn't support it.

I cannot get a connection to the internet and VM say they cannot help.

Do I need to download any Linux drivers to get this to connect. VM say that the modem is pre loaded but if they don't support Linux then it wont have the right software.

Ok, what is "Ebunto" ?

If you run "Ubuntu 9.10" it "should" just work.

I have no idea what version of Ubunto is installed but the notebook is about 12 months old.

My wife bought it in one of her mad moments and it has remained unused till now.

Right, it's at least one, probably two revisions out of date .. upgrade time!
