Help with scanners?

I am looking for a scanner to use with Linux, for scanning negatives to store and file.  Just seem to be going round in circles.  just about to give up!  Can anyone help?  Pleease!

Urm, I hate to say this, but I gave up. The number of [new] scanners available in the "cheap" bracket is quite small .. and those there are seem to be very quirky and Windows Specific. The ones explicitly supported by Linux tend to be the bigger / commercial document scanners with hoppers that scan 00's of documents at a time. The Best [cheap] one for use with Linux is probably a HP all-in-one Scanner/Fax/Deskjet if you can still find one ... my father has one of these plugged into an Ubuntu box, generally seems to work well ..

If its occasional use...

take a look at the HP Photosmart C3210, it comes with a negative attachment and has Linux drivers (HPLIP).

If you are looking for Professional quality negative only scanner, there are options like stand alone negative scanners that scan to SD card, or connect to a PC through USB.
