is it true that u cant use msn with linux?

Mmm, depends on what you mean by "MSN", if you mean "Microsoft Messenger", no it's not true. Personally I use Pidgin to talk to M$ messenger users but there are other applications which will also do the job.

What people have reported is problems using attachments using Hotmail ... however this may or may not be a real issue .. but then if you're using Hotmail the other problems you'll be having like lost / spam caught email will make this pale into insignificance.

Use Yahoo! mail or GMail ..!

thanku. i bought a netbook for my 13 yr old daughter who will basically just use it to talk to her friends online with msn, facebook, bebo etc. will it be easy enough to use etc. as u probably realise i am completely computer illiterate!!!

The answer is both yes and no.  You use the MSN (WLM) network using programs such as Kopete, Pidgin, KMess, aMSN and emesene.  There is not a version of MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger for Linux though.
