Hi Amanada
Just had a browse and found that on one of the google forums someone was asking the same question.
I have cut and pasted the reply for you below.
Good luck!

This is a list of ALL steps required to install a HP MFP 4100 laser
printer on Ubuntu-9.10 via the host, a Asus EeePC900:-
1) Click Admin
2) Click Printing
3) Click New printer
.... system auto searches for a printer, and finds my networked HP
laserjet MFP 4100 multifunction printer...
4) Select the printer, click "forward"
5) Tick options available for this unit, i.e. Hard drive, Duplexer, 64MB
ram.
6) Describe printer, set location to "tp-office"

HP printers and All-In-Ones (printer-scanner-fax) seem to be the best supported for Linux, other manufacturers do supply drivers such as Canon, but HP are better suported
HPLIP (Print, Scan and Fax Drivers for Linux) support most HP printers, and is included in most if not all linux distros, or repositories.
Manual Installation of HPLIP drivers on an eeePC 900 here:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/eeepc.html
See this page for which HP printers are supported:

You can pay between £20 and £1000 for a desktop printer .. so it sort of depends on what you want to pay and what you want to do with the printer.
After many (many) years printing to Linux I have two printers here that I wouldn't swap and would recommend to anyone on a heartbeat.
- HP Laserjet 1320 (B/W + Duplex)
- HP Color LaserJet 1600 (Colour) [obviously]
