New to the World of LINUX!
Hi all,
I try to make this simple. I've just bought secondhand an Acer Aspire ONE A110 and a neat little guy it is to.
I'm a systems Admin Guy but don't now squat about Linux, sad but true. I had my brain removed many years ago and was fitted with a cabbage from Microsoft.
Now I'm running this out of the box using 'Linpus Lite V.1.0.15.E'
So my questions are:
Can I run Skype?
I want to use the 3G slot for Internet access using three (3 moblie) in Austria where I live it's called 'Drei'.
Do I have the right Linux OS to do this?
If so how?
If not, which one and how do I install it?
Shamed and humbled, I am at your mercy, mind you I've only had it less than 24 hours :0)
All the best
Mike
Hi, yes you can run skype.
No you don't have the right OS.
You need Ubuntu's netbook remix edition , free from Ubuntu.com.
To install this you will need a 1G+ flash memory stick, all the instructions are available here;
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook
Hey, you've had it 24 hours and are already asking all the right questions, and you have an answer .. :) .. I've been doing this for 20 years and I still don't know why Acer put such a poor OS on the machine by default when there are better free alternatives available ...

Gareth, clearly you are the man to reckon with when it comes to Linux.
I'm beginning to get one of those warm and cuddley feelings about this website and LINUX.
I'll follow your advice to the letter and no doubt will talk again real soon.
A big THANKS!
Mike
